As the autumn leaves begin to fall, so does the high school volleyball season. The Girls varsity volleyball team is 13-1 this season and is co-league champs! Last Monday was not just another game for the Lady Eagles; it was senior night. A special night that is dedicated to honoring the hard work and leadership of the 2026 senior girls’ volleyball class.
The atmosphere was filled with excitement for the game, as the stands were packed with families and friends. The whole gym was decorated with blue and white, and posters hung on the back wall, made by the underclassmen. Life-size cutouts, posters, and fat heads decorated the gym. The volleyball parents also surprised their girls by wearing matching t-shirts! The girls also all twined in matching shirts, bows, boas, and sashes.
Before the game, the Lady Eagles gave the seniors of their opponent, Eastport South-Manor, flowers. It was a heart-warming sight. Then it was the Hauppauge girls’ turn to celebrate their seniors. All the parents lined up courtside, ready to be announced with their daughter alongside them. Each mother was given flowers and stood ready to take a picture. After the court cleared, it was time to start the game!
The Eagles came out hot and beat Eastport South-Manor in 3 sets!
Even though the game ended, the senior celebration did not! Dinner was brought to the gym while everybody got to enjoy some nice pizza and dessert all together. Together in the center of the gym, sat the whole volleyball team together all eating and soaking up the memories that night had brought. The night slowly came to an end as the underclassmen gave heartfelt speeches to the seniors.
It was a tearful sight.
Not a dry eye in the room.
After all the speeches ended, more photos began then the night slowly came to an end. The senior girls’ hands were full with how much things they had received, and their stomachs were filled with pizza and desserts like donuts, cake, Rice Krispies treats, Munchkins, and candy.
Getting home after the game, the senior girls were overcome with emotions. It didn’t feel like it was their turn to graduate, and it will soon be their last time playing volleyball ever. “I don’t want it to end,” senior rightside Keira McKechnie said.
The Hauppauge Girls Volleyball had a very successful night celebrating their 9 seniors.
The Lady Eagles take on the playoffs these next few weeks. The girls are the one seed and will be in the semi-finals on Wednesday! Happy Senior Night and Let’s go Eagles!
