Teacher appreciation week takes place May 5th through May 9th! Teachers are always appreciated, but for this week specifically the Soaring Eagle is putting teachers in the spotlight through dedicated articles to these well loved teachers at Hauppauge High School!
Background information: Mrs Seale is an English teacher at Hauppauge High School and teaches specifically IB english courses. She attended SUNY Geneseo for college, originally going for and obtaining a degree in Television Production where she worked in that field for 10 or so years before she pursued education. Mrs. Seale is also a Google trainer in which she has been certified by google to provide training and support to other educators. This role allows her to further integrate google tools into education to provide a more advanced and efficient learning technique. Alongside that, she holds a position within the Quizizz program, continues to contribute greatly to the IB program, and also participates in many other positions.
Teaching Method: Mrs Seale’s teaching method consists of multiple learning styles making sure the course material is properly introduced to the students. This includes visual lessons, lectures, group work, individual work, games, and mock-tests. This arrangement of learning techniques keeps her students engaged and interested while also properly training them for the difficult, three paper exam, at the end of the year. Personally, I find it very helpful on our schedule days when we go through the week or month and get a recap of important dates, tests, homework, projects, etc. This method allows for students to be prepared for upcoming exams and plan ahead. This tool has also helped me stay organized and learn how to manage my time better. Mrs. Seale does not only teach course material, but she instills life skills that will help students beyond high school and college. These techniques have helped me with analyzing and reading texts, how to properly cite or mark up essays, how to self assess, when to take a break if you’re over tired, and how to manage a heavy workload with a busy schedule. When it comes to the IB Course, Mrs. Seale knows every bump and ridge. She knows the ins and outs of the rubrics, exams, papers, and how to overachieve triumphs when getting stuck. This is what makes Mrs Seale an excellent teacher and is definitely one of her many attributes. She doesn’t just teach material she is given, but she masters the material and then re-learns it with us, allowing students to deeply understand the information rather than just surface level learning.
Impact: On my behalf, I can proudly say that Mrs. Seale has made a tremendous impact on me, and is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Before taking her class, I had heard many great things about her as a teacher and as a person but her dedication and efforts to make sure her students are successful, seen, and understood is above and beyond what people said. Not only have I grown as a student because of Mrs. Seale, but as someone pursuing education, she has encouraged me to stay on that path as I have first hand experience of the impact a teacher can have on a student. Being in Mrs. Seale’s class is comforting, she makes learning fun and easy, rather than hard and boring. I can honestly say that I have never not wanted to go to English class. As a student taking IB and AP courses, I can say these classes have not been easy, although Mrs. Seale has taught me and my peers that what you get is what you make of it, if you put in the work and effort you will get the results you are striving for. That is one thing that will stick with me, it’s not about the material you receive, it’s about how you decide to go about using it. A hard class is nothing with a teacher like Mrs. Seale, and I am extremely glad I took IB English because I am grateful to have a teacher like her! Thank you Mrs. Seale for an amazing last english class of high school and making my senior year more enjoyable!
Also a shout out to our AMAZING journalism teacher Mrs. Kaminski, we always appreciate you, and thank you for everything you do!! Happy Teacher Appreciation week to all our teachers at Hauppauge, we always appreciate you!
