Introduction

     When I think of a teacher who has left a lasting impact on me, Mrs. Maer stands out as one who has helped me grow tremendously. Mrs. Maer is a math teacher at Hauppauge High School, where she teaches AP Calculus AB, Precalculus, as well as IB Mathematics SL. Behind each student’s growth, there is a dedicated teacher who has guided them,

and for me that teacher is Mrs. Maer.

Teaching Method 

     Mrs. Maer’s teaching style is what I believe makes her such a great teacher! Advanced classes such as AP and IB require students to challenge themselves and receive guidance from their teachers. Mrs. Maer does an excellent job at preparing her students for the exams at the end of the year. She makes sure that each student receives the practice they need and has always offered any extra help that a student may want. One thing that I love about her teaching method is the use of group work. Mrs. Maer allows her students to work together to practice, while also offering just enough help for them to understand and figure out problems on their own. Mrs. Maer has taught her students how to approach challenging problems and use what they know to their advantage. Her organization has helped me thrive as a student. While taking her class, I learned many equations and problem-solving skills, but I also learned the importance of dedication, commitment, and perseverance. These lessons will be something I use even outside of the classroom.

Impact 

      I had the opportunity of having Mrs. Maer as a teacher for IB Math SL my junior year of high school. Math has always been my favorite and my love for the subject has only grown since taking her class! She is so dedicated to each of her classes and truly wants to help us grow. I appreciate all the hard work and time she has put into helping me grow as a math student. Not only has she helped me grow as a student, but she also helped me further acknowledge my love for math and for teaching others. After I graduate this June, I plan to major in mathematics adolescence education. Mrs. Maer has been an inspiration for me to become a teacher, and I am incredibly grateful for all she has done for me. I cannot wait to continue my love for math in college!
