Scroll for five minutes… and suddenly it’s been an hour. That’s not an accident its design.
Apps like TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat are designed to keep your attention as long as possible. Their algorithm learns what you like fast whether it be videos, trends, or even certain people. Nevertheless it feeds you more of what it has learned you like. On the surface, it feels personalized and fun. But here’s the part most people don’t think about it the longer you stay, the more you’re being influenced without realizing it.
Trends can shape how you dress, what you buy, even how you think you should look. A lot of what goes viral isn’t real life it’s edited, filtered, and sometimes completely staged. Comparing yourself to that can mess with your confidence and personality without even getting the chance to notice.
There’s also pressure to keep up trends, posts, likes. Sometimes it can feel like your worth is tied to numbers on a screen. That’s when it starts to get unhealthy.
However, this doesn’t mean social media is all bad. It’s how we connect, laugh, and keep up with what’s going on. What’s important is knowing when to question what you’re seeing.
Use social media but don’t let it use you.
