The Final Fight: A Review of Stranger Things Season 5
Season 5 of Stranger Things is an intense and emotional ending to the series that fully came out on December 31st, 2025. From the beginning, the season makes it clear that this is the final chapter and that everything is at stake. The season focuses on teamwork, sacrifice, and finally ending the danger of the Upside Down. From the start, the characters know this is their final fight, making the tone darker than previous seasons, but it still keeps the strong friendship and teamwork that have always defined the show.
One of the strongest parts of the season is how everyone works together to defeat the Mind Flayer and Vecna. Max survives and plays an important role by helping Eleven and Kali travel through Henry’s memories. These scenes are emotional and help explain Vecna’s past while also showing how strong the bond is between the characters. In the final battle, Eleven ultimately kills Venca, showing how much she has grown since the first season. Joyce chopping off Vecna’s head is a shocking but powerful moment that shows her determination to kill Vecna. It also shows how ordinary people in Hawkins have changed after facing so much danger.
Eleven’s storyline is especially emotional and one of the most powerful parts of the season. The Duffer Brothers stated that Eleven’s ending was up to the viewer’s discretion. The fans get to choose how her story ends. Mike and the others believe that when the Upside Down was destroyed, Kali used her powers to create an illusion to make it seem like Eleven died, it wasn’t really Eleven standing there. Either way, this moment is heartbreaking and shows her willingness to sacrifice herself for others. Eleven escapes and makes it to a beautiful place with three waterfalls, just like Mike described in his fantasy of their future, or so they believe. Eleven’s ending is open-ended and up for interpretation.
The ending of the season feels full circle. With the Upside Down destroyed and most of the characters surviving, the story closes on a hopeful note. The final scene, where Holly and her friends sit down to play Dungeons & Dragons, mirrors the very first episode of the series. This ending reminds viewers that Stranger Things has always been about friendship, imagination, and growing up. Overall, Season 5 is a strong and satisfying conclusion to Stranger Things. It balances action, emotion, and storytelling while honoring the characters and the journey they have been on since the beginning. Fans of the series found the ending emotional, meaningful, and memorable.
