In 2019 Coco Gauff became the youngest player to ever reach the main draw at Wimbledon by qualifying for the Open Era at the age of just 15. This was her first Grand Slam debut in the world, and she sure didn’t disappoint by beating the famed Venus Williams, her idol, in the first round. She then was deemed a global tennis superstar instantly.
Gauff’s Greatness Recognized in the 2023 U.S. Open
19-year-old Gauff made history on September 9th, 2023, as the youngest American to win the U.S. Open since Serena Williams in 1999. This became Gauff’s first major title with a 2-6, 6-3, and 6-2 victory against Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus. This was a memorable moment for the overjoyed crowd at the U.S. Open and a viral moment for Gauff as she fell to the ground after securing her win and sobbed out of happiness at Arthur Ashe Stadium. To solidify how her win in the Open should not be looked down upon by haters Gauff said, “To those who thought that they were putting water on my fire, you were really adding gas to it. Gauff Makes Great Feat in 4th Round of French Open
This year Gauff has become the 2nd American woman in Open history to reach 4 consecutive Women’s Singles R16s at the stadium Roland Garros before the age of 21. After her win, Gauff is eager to secure more wins in the 16 rounds of the 2024 French Open. She is set up to go against more amazing players in this year’s French Open, and when asked about how her previous U.S. Open win helps her prepare she said, “Not really every tournament I’m just trying to reset. The past is in the past. Obviously, it’s a great accomplishment but I’m hungry for more” (Eurosport).
Gauff Set to Be in 2024 Paris Olympics
Gauff is now the first tennis player to clinch a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics for team U.S.A. She is an ambitious player as she hopes to secure wins in singles, doubles, and mixed after her reign of victory in past competitions. She is sure to be an anticipated watch in the upcoming Olympics this year, now that she is the number 3 seed in tennis.
