Background

Mrs. Maiorini is an Honors Algebra II and AP Statistics teacher at Hauppauge High School. This school year marks her 25th year educating students at Hauppauge. She pursued her educational studies at Seton Hall University. Mrs. Maiorini’s initial desire to become a math teacher arose from her natural interest and skills in mathematics throughout her education and how she enjoyed “helping her friends understand the material” whenever they approached her for help.

Teaching Method

Mrs. Maiorini excels in creating an engaging and instructive environment for every student she teaches. She approaches every lesson, regardless of its difficulty, with a positive and eager mindset, fostering a beneficial learning experience; Students leave her classroom feeling confident in their mathematical abilities. Mrs. Maiorini goes beyond the monotonous outline of the Algebra II and AP Statistics curriculums, often incorporating thoughtful, interactive activities into her lessons that get students excited to learn. Whether it’s simply letting us roll dice to determine probability or offering us candy as a prize for a game, Mrs. Maiorini is passionate about her role as an educator.

Teacher’s Impact

This year, I had Mrs. Maiorini as both my Honors Algebra II and AP Statistics teacher. With the hectic nature of a high school schedule, I often felt overwhelmed with the majority of my classes. This, however, was not the case in my two math classes: Each day, I would enter Mrs. Maiorini’s classroom without stress, as I was confident that I could succeed under her instruction. Upon beginning the school year, I was unsure of how I would perform in AP Statistics. I recently took the AP Statistics Exam, however, and felt entirely prepared to succeed, as Mrs. Maiorini made me feel confident in the material. Her instruction has also led me to fully comprehend Algebra II, encouraging me to continue taking advanced math courses. I appreciate Mrs. Maiorini’s impact on alleviating school-related stress by consistently giving students the resources and instruction necessary to excel in math.
