Mrs Lasurdo is a history teacher that I had in 9th grade during Global 1. I had a great time in her class and loved the way she taught. She would explain difficult concepts in an easy way. She always offered extra help and was clearly dedicated and compassionate towards her job. Most importantly she is funny and understanding at the same time, even though she doesn’t teach any 10th grade classes I stay in touch with her.
Currently, Mrs Lasurdo teaches 5 classes which consist of AP World 1 and Global 1. She went to Stony Brook for 6 years. During those years she got a bachelor’s in History as well as her master’s, and even got her administrator degrees. She started teaching in 1996 and has been in Hauppauge since 2008. I asked Mrs Lasurdo why she wanted to become a teacher, and she said she loved history and liked to see students have the “a-ha” moment, of finally understanding. In the end it’s how you treat the students according to Mrs Lasuro. This makes sense, since a lot of the time I see upperclassmen and even graduates come and visit her.
Although I had her only 1 year, freshman year, she is still extremely memorable, and extremely understanding. I am so thankful to have her and I know that I can tell Mrs Lasurdo anything. She has impacted my life in a positive way including many other students. Thank you for all you have done!
