What is a Self-Care Day?
Self-care is taking the time to do things or activities that will improve mainly mental health, but also the physical health as well for an individual. A day for someone to focus on caring for themselves, even little things such as sleeping in, doing a face mask, or unwinding watching a favorite television show, goes a long way especially after working hard at something for a while without getting to care for yourself ideally leaves a person feeling pretty exhausted. Self-care days can be used to put aside daily worries and tasks to help manage stress and increase energy levels.
What Does a Self-Care Day Look Like?
A day for self-care looks different from person to person, because not everyone truly enjoys doing the same things and interprets a day devoted to caring for themselves differently. Some activities may include going for a scenic walk to refresh the mind, going for a spa day, cleaning your room, and trying something new that you haven’t had the chance to do. Disconnecting from the things that make you stressed or make you feel like you’re putting yourself last before anything else, is the most important aspect of a day of catching up with yourself.
The “Work Hard Play Hard Mentality Can Be Damaging,” and it’s Time to Change That
As of recently, the mentality of constantly working hard so much that it feels both mentally and physically exhausting to continue from day to day without a breather has swept across the United States. As a community, we shouldn’t promote stress-filled and restless lifestyles, because our world is not centered around work and being in a state of stress 24/7. Instead, we should promote having days of rest and relaxation that better stimulate the mind to reduce stress and increase work ethic and mental efficiency. It shouldn’t be normalized to be swamped with events, heavy workloads, and caring for others before yourself constantly and that’s why it’s important to start a new day with a clean slate to improve collective mental and physical health as a hard-working community.
