According to Google, the definition of a trend is “a fashion”. Fashion is constantly changing, it went from white Nike’s to Crocs, and so on. However recently I have been noticing that trends have been getting more expensive. Trends that are currently happening are Uggs and Yeezy slides/shoes(SPLY 350). So I am going to look at the pros and cons of these trends (specifically for shoes).
To start it off we have the Yeezy slides, there is no doubt that they are extremely popular because of the collaboration between Kanye West and Adidas. It began in 2020 however in late 2023 it was remarkably noticeable. Kanye makes about 220 million dollars per year just from Yeezy’s. So what makes the slide so good? There are many mixed opinions online, some saying they are comfortable and some the complete opposite. They are made with EVA foam which is supposedly supposed to prevent slipperiness from the floor and promote traction. As for the looks of the shoe, it is extremely basic. The cost of the shoe is between 80-150 dollars depending on the size, color, etc. In my opinion, I believe that they are overpriced since I have used extremely comfortable slides for less than half the price.
To continue, the next shoe that we have is Uggs, the specific ones that are popular are the Tasman. Uggs are known for being extremely comfy, and indeed they do live up to that statement. They cost around 110 dollars, in 2023 Uggs made approximately 1.9 billion dollars. Similar to the Yeezy slides, they have a very basic look, it goes nice with almost every outfit. Its colors are limited to black, brown, and gray. Like the Yeezy has its special foam, these Uggs are warm like boots however they are extremely lightweight. In all honesty, these Uggs are slightly cheaper than the Yeezy’s; but still fall into the category of “expensive”, they are worth it.
To make this review less biased and opinionated, I asked some people about whether they think it is expensive, fair, or a bargain. Out of all the people I asked 80% stated that it was expensive, stating statements like “They’re ugly”. So in conclusion it does not seem like a fair price to the majority of people.
