Hauppauge swim and diving deserves more recognition, especially after the meet they had at leagues
Do we have a swim team?
The Hauppauge Smithtown swim teams (boys and girls) are very strong and have been for years, but they do not get the credit and recognition they deserve. Hauppauge swims & diving is currently home to league champs, state qualifiers, and the league champion in diving. These swimmers will continue to push their luck at counties– held at Stony Brook University on February 10th. Before the men’s season’s success, the girl’s team in the fall were undefeated for the second year in a row. The girl’s swim team also had state champions, and state qualifiers from Hauppauge! Men’s swimming also got the league champions title being undefeated.
League championships results
The Hauppauge Swim team is combined with Smithtown Bulls, and on January 30th and 31st, the league championships were held at the Hauppauge High School pool. Colin Buscarino, the only Hauppauge diver, was able to get first place in League 1, for the 4th time in a row. He scored 242.55. Good luck to Colin as he will compete to be the county champion at Stony Brook! In addition to this success, other notable Hauppauge swimmers include Noah Hutzler, Ryan Reed, and Brady Park.
Colin Buscarino, and his diving journey
On top of everything Colin does for the school, whether it includes running the Eagles Food Pantry or planning events as the Student Council president, he devotes time to diving. Not only does Colin dive, but he is adept at it. The swim program in itself does not get the recognition it deserves, but the divers get even less love. Colin has been a part of the team for the past 6 years. While being a part of the team, Colin has been named Section 11 diver of the year, Last year’s county champion, all Long Island in diving, 26th in the state in 11 dives and was named MVP for the swim team last year. He also broke the record previously held by Sean Rorke in 6 dives. Before leagues, he competed in 2 diving invitationals this season. At the inaugural Long Island challenge, (which is a competition with the best swimming and diving teams from section 11) Colin finished second with a 401.75. A couple weeks after this invitational, Colin represented Smithtown Hauppauge… aka Smithpauge at Deer Park 11 Dive Invitational. Colin finished 2nd and 4th– getting a score of 446.20, greatly improving his previous invitational record and narrowly missing the State Qualifying score of 450.
