The bestselling novel The Summer of Broken Rules by K.L. Walther is an extremely good book. It’s a romance that was inspired by Taylor Swift’s songs. The story starts with the main character, named Meredith, going to Martha’s Vineyard for summer vacation. This is where her family does their annual game of assassin. Also this year they are gathering for a big wedding. Which Meredith doesn’t have a date for yet. This year something else is different though. Her sister died 18 months ago, and it will be the first summer without her there. Now she feels like she has to fulfill her sister’s legacy since Claire always loved the game. While playing this game she allies with one of the groomsmen. Despite wanting to do this for their sister and not getting distracted, that is exactly what she finds herself doing. It takes you through her summer romance with comedy and sweetness. It describes how she got through the pain of her sister’s death. Also, it contains many fun twists and humorous remarks. The Taylor Swift basis of it was my favorite.

This book brings summer to you. It makes you feel included and never want to stop reading. Even though the book does cover her sister’s death it doesn’t make the novel that sad. It does the exact opposite. The author makes you happy that she lived a good life before she died. Besides that, there is nothing else that I found sad. It was an amazing way to show a different way summer can be. Walther’s brought summer fun into a book. Many authors can’t perceive it the same way she did. She was able to make it sad, but happy. It wasn’t like one of those sad romances that make you cry either. So in other words, the book was astounding. In addition to making an ally with one of the groomsmen; she overall gets closer to her family. My favorite part is when she finds out who he is and realizes that she is falling for him despite not wanting to.

The author, K.L. Walther grew up with her family in Pennsylvania. She fell in love with watching romantic comedies when she was young. Then when she was going to the University of Pennsylvania she realized that writing was her passion. After this, she started to write novels. So far she has written four books. This includes The Summer of Broken Rules. Also like the rest of her books, they are all romantic comedies. So based on her childhood she probably got ideas for her book The Summer of Broken Rules.
