My Fault is the first novel in the trilogy Culpable by Mercedes Ron. This novel contains mysteries, romance, and trauma all in one. It’s the story of Noah, who has faced devastatingly hard times in her life. She faces many different challenges throughout the story. She is only 17 years old and it is just her and her mom. The story begins as her mom moves them across the United States from Toronto to Los Angeles. Her mom does this because she secretly got married while away on a trip and now they are moving in with him. Now she’s faced with making new friends and building her life back up. More importantly, now living with people she never even met.
Los Angeles, California brings new things and challenges into her life. In this new life, she has a step-brother and is now one of the spoiled rich kids herself that she always despised. Noah is thrown into this new life of hers that includes parties and street races. This new life invites her to experience new experiences, like going to a private school and despite getting bullied, making friends. In addition, her new brother is involved in some shady stuff. Overall Noah’s whole life becomes more dangerous and complicated with these new changes. In the story, readers learn about her past and what she has been through in her seventeen years also.
The novel brings readers through her past and traumatic times. It’s considered to be a mystery because readers have to find out what happened in her past when she was younger. There are also many surprises and truths revealed throughout the book. As the book progresses she makes more between people. She makes the relationship she has with her mother stronger. She is slowly falling for her new step-brother. Everyone around her is telling her it’s wrong, and that she needs to change her feelings. Realize how dangerous Nick, her step-brother, is and how he can only cause her more pain in the long run. So in other words not only does this book contain mystery, angst, and trauma, but it also includes a forbidden romance.
