Feel like TikTok is already taking over your whole world? Now with the new shop feature, you don’t even have to leave the app to purchase the advertised products. 

What is a TikTok shop?

TikTok Shop is a newly added extension in addition to the already existing app. This feature helps creators with their TikTok business accounts directly link their shop website in a video–promoting the tagged product specifically. For example, a sweatshirt company can make a short video about the sweatshirt, and have a little embedded link to buy the merchandise. Rather than having to go into a different website browser and search for the company, and search for the product from the video. TikTok shops cut the middleman out of the equation. Following this, the prices are crazy cheap. Beauty sponges cost 2 dollars and would regularly cost 10 on Amazon. In addition to this, content creators are also able to get a cut from this new shop, not just businesses. When content creators post a video and tag the product in a TikTok shop, they get the equivalent of a brand deal. Popular creators are able to get the listed product at a discount or entirely for free. 

Initial Review 

Every other video on my page has some sort of plugged ad, and I am not upset about it. I hate having to look up specific items that I see in a video. Simply having the direct thing from the video to be added to a cart is ideal for me. Also, the shop has scrolling features like TikTok. You can hit the word ‘shop’ on the top of the TikTok feed, and scroll through categories of products. I like nicknacks and random useless items, and TikTok feeds right into that. So in my opinion, I really liked the idea of the new feature

Purchases

I decided to purchase 2 things from this shop. Makeup powder applicators and a bodysuit. I saw the bodysuit on a girl in a video and I really liked it, so I clicked the link and saw the shirt was 10 dollars. Personally, that sounded like a deal to me, nothing to lose. The products came within 4 business days and were in perfect condition. The sponges worked as intended and the body suit looked just like the photo in the shop, and the video of the person wearing it in the video. The sponges were $2.50 and it came with 6 in a pack. Instead of me driving out to the beauty store to get 2 for 5 dollars, I got this deal. I honestly could scroll and buy for hours but I stayed within my budget (somehow). 

Overall Conclusion

All in all, I think the TikTok shop was a great addition to my TikTok. I would definitely not trust buying certain things from here like skincare or makeup, but that is just me personally. I would rather stay safe when it comes to real makeup products or anything that involves ingesting. However, for quick little things like car accessories or small business t-shirts, this place is great.
