Many people think of Spring Break as just a nice break from school. A week or more off with no stress of assignments or tests, but Spring Break is more than just that for many people in the world. It is important to know and understand the different celebrations or holidays during this time. During this Spring Break, many different celebrations from many different religions are celebrated. Easter, Passover, and Ramadan are the most known celebrations that are happening during this Spring Break.
All About Easter
A lot of people know Easter as a holiday filled with candy, plastic eggs, and the most known animal connected to this holiday, the Easter Bunny. This is true, a lot of the celebration of Easter is all about the fun objects. But for many families, Easter is much more than just decorating eggs and eating the marshmallow peeps covered in sugar. Easter is a big important part of Christianity. Easter also known as Pascha or Resurrection Sunday, is a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus. Many Christians worldwide celebrate Easter by attending church services with music, candlelight, flowers, and the ringing of church bells. Christians use this time to celebrate the joyful end to the Lenten season of fasting too.
All About Passover
Passover is a major Jewish celebration. Another name for Passover is Pesach. Passover celebrates the exodus of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, which occurred on the 15th day of the Hebrew month Nisan, the first month of Aviv, or spring. Passover is celebrated through big ceremonies. The first night especially. On the first night, the families called this meal the seder. During this meal, the Haggadah which is the book of exodus and related writings is recited in a set order. This celebration is a big part of Judaism.
All About Ramadan
Even though Ramadan is not celebrated every year during Spring Break, this year in 2022 it falls during this time of the year. Ramadan is an important month for a lot of people around the world. This month is a holy month for the people who follow the Islamic religion. During this time, Muslims observe a strict daily fast from dawn until sunset. During the time of fasting, they are not allowed to eat or drink anything. This time for Muslims is very sacred. A lot of people spend the day, praying and being around loved ones. During this month, it is meant to strengthen their relationship with God. Muslims follow the Islamic calendar, making Ramadan fall at different times of the year, every year. Even though this celebration falls at different parts of the year, it is still important if you don’t celebrate this holiday to respect the people who do.
