Meredith Grey’s life is the focus of Grey’s Anatomy. Elis Grey, Meredith Grey’s mother, is one of the world’s most prominent and successful general surgeons. She was so well-known that she had a surgical procedure named after her: ‘the Grey Method.’ Her mother, unfortunately, is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Elis didn’t want to hurt her reputation, so she made Meredith lie and say she was on her way. Meredith takes her mother’s place as top surgeon once she passes away. Meredith has survived multiple shootings, plane crashes, drownings, and near-death experiences. She has also suffered a great deal of loss. She figures out how to juggle friends, career, family, and life’s challenges while still succeeding.

Shonda explains why she made certain story decisions and breaks down the Grey’s Anatomy pilot act by act. Thinking on the framework of Grey’s Anatomy’s pilot. Surprisingly, it appears to be a good illustration of how to lay out things. In the pilot, there are five acts, each of which is approximately 11 pages long. It could, however, be a little longer. Alternatively, it may be a little bit shorter. The first act is mostly concerned with the introduction of the characters: the beginning of the world. As I previously stated, a pilot should begin with an interesting opening; and just because you want to excite the audience doesn’t mean everything needs to go off. A cliche is everything you’ve heard or seen before, as I often mention since I feel like people don’t get it: Shonda Rhimes was so scared when pitching Grey’s Anatomy that she had to start over. Twice. She has now gone on to conceive and produce some of television’s biggest hits. In her screenwriting class, Shonda teaches fans how to write interesting characters, write a pilot, pitch ideas, and stand out in the writers’ room. Her shows also include original pilot screenplays, pitch notes, and series bibles.

Shonda taught me that being comfortable with the structure of a five-act teleplay provides for a lot of creative license. The world a writer may create within that structure is boundless if they learn where beats should be placed and how to structure their story to make it as clean and brief as possible. Grey’s Anatomy is a fantastic show that can make you laugh out loud with the phrases and humor of the characters! I began binge-watching the show after a few friends suggested it and thought I would enjoy it. I watched seasons 1 through 14 over and over again. This is my go-to show when I’m in a bad mood. Overall, I adore Grey’s Anatomy and its characters; each one is written in such a unique way. Between seasons 1 and 10, I discovered that the atmosphere of the program is amazing, and I enjoy watching MerTina’s (Meredith & Cristina) friendship the best! And rewatching the seasons without Cristina makes me feel so hollow, because I believe Grey’s was all about Mer and Cristina’s friendship and how they were always there for each other no matter what.
